Your Questions Answered

We’ve built the DoggyDoor with you, your dog and your home in-mind. We want to show this with full transparency and so have created a wealth of frequently asked questions to help you understand the DoggyDoor in greater detail and to remove any worries you may have.

How do I know when my dog wants to go outside?

The DoggyDoor is fitted with internal and external sensors. When your dog approaches the door, the sensor will pick them up and send a notification to your DoggyDoor app.

How does the app work?

In short, after the dog approaches the door and you receive your notification, upon opening the app you can see your dog via the internal camera. You can then command him or her to ‘sit’ and ‘wait’ via live speech or prerecorded messages. When ready, open the door allowing your dog to leave. You can then switch to the external camera to monitor your dog.

How do I get my dog back inside?

As we know, dogs love outside space, but we wanted to make sure you can get the little tinker back inside. That’s why the DoggyDoor is fitted with an external speaker to call your dog back. Should that fail you can play the same commands on the internal speaker imitating the noise is coming from the inside. As a fail safe you can play high-frequency dog whistle noises too.

Can my dog get hurt?

We have taken the safety of your dog very seriously. That’s why the DoggyDoor is fitted with a distance security sensor. Meaning that should your dog put it’s head outside and change then change their mind (because it’s raining for example), the door will not close on them. The same applies for any hesitant dogs.

How secure is the door?

Very! We have designed the DoggyDoor to ensure it doesn’t lower the current security credentials your home has via standard double glazing. In fact we wanted the DoggyDoor to improve the security of your home. That’s why it’s fitted with a variety of sensors and security devices which will alert you should there be any attempted to break in via the DoggyDoor.

We wanted to provide you with a safe dog door and home security features such as internal and external security cameras (with night-vision) and intruder alarm. For example, should someone attempt to break into your house via the DoggyDoor it will trigger a safety switch, sending you a security alert and sound the intruder alarm. You can then open the app to view if there is any danger.

How strong is the DoggyDoor?

We have ensured the DoggyDoor doesn’t diminish the integral security your home already has via the installation of standard double glazing. That’s why the door frames are made of aluminium, giving you confidence that it wont break from the first hit of a football! Additionally, the door frame panes are made of polycarbonate, which is stronger than the double panes of glass in your windows.

What happens if someone attempts to break in?

When designing the DoggyDoor we took the worst case scenarios into account – we know there are bad people out there!

With the DoggyDoor PRO, if someone approaches the door with a hand or crowbar for example, it will break the security gate and send you an alert notification. From there you can open the app to inspect what is happening, it could be an intruder, or it could be the neighbours inquisitive cat. Should you miss that notification and the intruder attempt to open the doors, it will trigger a security switch and send you another warning, all while playing an alarm through the speakers.

Furthermore, should someone cover the camera to stop you from viewing their attempted break-in, it blocks a light sensor meaning you will receive a pre-emptive warning notification. If it is blocked, you can play the alarm, call the police or ask a neighbour to check over the fence.

I have more than one dog, how does that work?

You’ll be pleased to hear we’ve accounted for homes having multiple dogs. The DoggyDoor has a smart brain and can account for who’s inside and who’s outside. You can see this via the app, we never leave a dog behind!

How is the DoggyDoor shatter-resistant?

We use a composite called ‘polycarbonate’. This is a very strong and durable plastic. We use this instead of glass as it can flex should anyone attempt to break in – whereas glass would break. This mixed with the aluminium frame makes the DoggyDoor very strong!

Why is the DoggyDoor Lite cheaper?

Although the DoggyDoor Lite comes with features such as aluminium door frames, polycarbonate window panes and a water resistant double seal, it doesn’t have the dual 1080p cameras, dual speakers or infrared security sensors.

What control do I have with the DoggyDoor Lite?

The DoggyDoor Lite is a fully automated pet door. Meaning that your dog can use the door as they please. You will receive notifications of the use and can view a timeline of activity. Additionally you can timetable their access via the DoggyDoor app.

How secure is the DoggyDoor Lite?

Being that it is made from the same materials, there is no difference in the integral strength of the products.

When it comes to security features the DoggyDoor Lite is fitted with a security switch as standard. Meaning that should anyone try to prise the doors open, it will trigger a notification to your app. DoggyDoor PRO customers are able to open the app and use the external and internal cameras to view what the issue is and play an alarm via the dual speakers. DoggyDoor Lite customers do not have this functionality.

How does the video stream work?

The DoggyDoor is connected to your home WiFi router, so as long as you have an internet connection on your phone, you can get a live feed.

What’s the difference between the doors?

The main difference is the awareness. Meaning that if you want your dog to have autonomy and don’t need to control the door with the added functionality of cameras and speakers, then the DoggyDoor Lite is the one for you. However, should you want to add peace-of-mind and security to your home, then choose the DoggyDoor PRO.

Will my dog be able to hear me calling them through the speakers?

In short, yes. As we know, dogs have incredible hearing. The door has been tested in a 50ft garden with the dog returning 100% of the time. Does can also hear twice the frequencies humans do, so the speakers is loud to them!

Remember, DoggyDoor PRO customers have the ability to play a ‘dog whistle’ noise through the speakers, should their dog be enjoying rolling around outside and being stubborn about returning inside.

How do the added security sensors work?

The infrared security sensors is a great addition! It will give you an ‘early warning’ should something be there that shouldn’t be. It could be an intruder, it could be a squirrel hiding from the rain? Either way its another feature that gives you peace-of-mind.

The camera light sensor is there to deter. We have tried to think in worst case scenarios and those who attempt to do bad. Meaning that if an intruder thinks they will cover the camera to stop you from viewing what they are doing, you’ll be notified of this. If it’s covered, call the police or ask a neighbour to investigate.

Can I fit the DoggyDoor?

The choice is yours. The DoggyDoor comes with installation instructions and has been designed so that it is D.I.Y-able. however, should you want to fit the door to a brick wall, we would recommend asking a professional…unless you are one, then crack on!

Will installing the door affect my home insurance?

Please check with your insurer what changes you might have to make to your home insurance. Most insurers are comfortable with cat flaps and other dog flaps. So with the DoggyDoor being so safe and with its added security features, we are confident in the product and the security of your home.

How big is the DoggyDoor?

The DoggyDoor has been designed to fit within the lower UPVC panel of a standard double glazed door, as a minimum. The DoggyDoor as a whole measures 600mm in height and 350 mm in width. The whole required to be cut through the door, or window is 420mm in height and 260 mm in width. The DoggyDoor has been designed to cater for  a male Labrador and everything smaller. We will be releasing a larger door in future products.
